Kai Havertz was confirmed to have undergone surgery on Thursday after sustaining a knee injury in Arsenal's 1-0 victory at Manchester United and his subsequent absence has the potential to force his side to re-enter the transfer market.

The Gunners have recruited well throughout the summer, signing seven players including Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi and Eberechi Eze, with the latter joining following initial news of Havertz's injury. Despite the 'emergency' signing, the confirmation of the German's surgery may lead them to act again in the market.

Will Havertz's injury actually force Arsenal to re-enter the transfer market before the window's closure or will they be relaxed about the situation?

Arsenal are still very active in the market as they look to bring in at least one more player and sell a few before the window closes. They have agreed a deal for Jakub Kiwior to move on loan to Porto while also remaining in talks to sign Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen.

While the Ecuadorian would be another addition, he is a defender so wouldn't be a direct answer to Havertz's injury, instead acting more as a bolster of overall squad depth.

With his German counterpart undergoing recovery, Gyokeres has been left as his side's only real number nine option. Gabriel Jesus is also absent as he looks to bounce back from an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered midway through last season. Mikel Merino and Leandro Trossard have filled in up front previously, but neither strike the same level of fear into opponents as the Swede.

Havertz's absence isn't expected to be lengthy, but the Gunners will likely need some form of backup throughout the period he is unavailable. With no real options to pick from the current squad, that's where you have to question if Andrea Berta does decide to explore.

The sporting director is reported to be assessing the market in the final days of the window should an opportunity present itself. That seems to be the best course of action for Arsenal ahead of deadline day.

There should be no real urgency surrounding another potential move. Gyokeres showed with his clinical brace against Leeds that he is more than capable of leading the line and there are some options in the form of Merino and Trossard to fall back on if really needed.

With financial regulations and other factors in mind, the unavailability of Havertz shouldn't force Arsenal to act and panic buy as that's where you end up with a signing of Raheem Sterling or Neto's calibre. Instead, they should stay calm and rely on what they already possess while being prepared if a suitable and affordable option does become available.

The Gunners will certainly not be forced back into the transfer market due to Havertz's injury.
