Arsenal will kick off the Premier League tonight as your champions. Last summer's signing Viktor Gyökeres had an admirable first season in London, but will he start for the Gunners?

Before the FPL deadline tonight, Gyökeres sits at around 10% ownership in the game. This is quite surprising, considering he competes with Kai Havertz for a spot in the centre-forward role. Realistically, which of the two is most likely to start this season?

Viktor Gyökeres is unlikely to start for Arsenal

Viktor Gyökeres did not start in Arsenal's recent game against Man City in the Community Shield. This could be a sign that he is not at the top of the pecking order, which Arsenal fans expected heading into the season.

Gyökeres started most games in the Premier League last season; however, he didn't have too much competition for a large chunk of the season.

This season, it does feel like Gyökeres will see a slight reduction in his minutes. That said, in those matches when he is not starting, he will come off the bench more often than not.

Viktor Gyökeres vs Kai Havertz: Who is Arsenal's first-choice striker?

Without any doubt, Kai Havertz is Arsenal's first-choice striker.

The German international was crucial when it mattered most last season, scoring some important goals at the back end of the Premier League season and even the Champions League final.

In the most recent match, Arsenal started their campaign with silverware by winning the Community Shield. Kai Havertz scored a goal in that match, only adding to his reputation as Mr Reliable for the Gunners.

Is Viktor Gyökeres a good FPL pick this week?

This week, maybe. To be completely honest, if Gyökeres is to get minutes at the start of this Premier League, a lot will come against his former club, Coventry.

However, thinking long-term (and Arsenal's fixture schedule does get harder after the opener), Havertz will be the go-to option for Mikel Arteta.

Could Kai Havertz be the better FPL option?

Absolutely. Kai Havertz is a better FPL option than Viktor Gyökeres.

However, at £7.5m, you get much greater value and solidity by picking João Pedro of Chelsea instead. It is better to use your Arsenal slots in defence/goalkeeper, perhaps saving some room for the bargain Christos Tzolis, who is in line to start for Arsenal.

Who takes Arsenal's penalties: Viktor Gyökeres or Kai Havertz?

Last season, Arsenal received four penalties in the Premier League. Gyökeres took an impressive 3/4 of them, with Bukayo Saka taking the other one. All four of Arsenal's penalties in the Premier League were scored.

FPL verdict: Should you pick Viktor Gyökeres?

I would personally avoid Viktor Gyökeres. His minutes remain up in the air, and to be frank, you can get much better value for money elsewhere.
