Arsenal’s win against Hull City was a win, and for that, we celebrate, but we also have to be practical about the changes that need to be made. Namely Alex Iwobi.

Arsenal managed to get back three points after pulling zero from their past two matches and it was mostly thanks to Alexis Sanchez and a bit of luck. The Gunners looked pretty flustered early on and throughout, but in the end, it was the three points we needed, and a gritty three points at that.

As such, I really do hate to seem so negative after a win, but as I said, there is a need to be practical here. We can’t take a 2-0 win and call it the start of a winning formula, because it just wasn’t that.

There were some major gaps in this squad today, especially in the attack, which is supposedly the best attack in the Premier League. Mesut Ozil was not the cog that we need, churning things out in the center of the pitch and Theo Walcott may or may not have even been on the pitch. Hector Bellerin did far more than him on that side.

But it was Alex Iwobi that I feel most confident in speaking about. Mainly because we have been here before. Iwobi is an incredibly talented lad that deserves all the faith that he has received. There is so much optimism in his array of talent and his ability to be something special.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

I don’t doubt that for a second.

But he was benched earlier in the year when he was finding it hard to be a useful member of this attack and it’s past time for that to happen again. The Nigerian was, in a word, helpless against Hull City. His passes were awful and his dribbling was no coming off.

Which led to him trying harder and harder and getting more and more dejected.

Last time we dropped him to the bench, he returned with more confidence than ever. What makes that even more exciting is that last time we didn’t have Lucas Perez and Danny Welbeck sitting there, ready to make the most of any chance handed them.

As such, it’s time to make that change. So many people, myself included, have been calling for some swapping for a few weeks now, swaps that always include Lucas and Welbeck. This is that opportunity and it needs to be taken.
