Petr Cech has been ruled out for up to four weeks with a calf injury. David Ospina now has an opportunity to change his Arsenal career.

A lot of Arsenal players have been called out recently for their poor form. Petr Cech was one of them. There were calls for Wenger to drop the Premier League Clean Sheets Record Holder for David Ospina.

Arsene Wenger refused, but now that Cech will spend the next few weeks on the sideline, David Ospina has a chance to turn his career around. The Gunner’s next few fixtures are crucial if they are to secure Champions League football next season. For David Ospina, these fixtures put him in the shop window for the upcoming transfer window.

I am sure the Colombian starting goalkeeper is not happy playing second fiddle. A starting spot should be his desire and he won’t ever solidify that spot at Arsenal Football Club.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Petr Cech still has two years left on his contract, Wojciech Szczesny and Matt Macey have impressed on their respective loans and Arsene Wenger sees Emiliano Martinez as the Gunner’s goalkeeper of the future;

"He has the stature, he has the passion, he has the technical quality, he has the decision-making, he has huge power and he’s not frightened of anything.I remember a game at Anderlecht in the Champions League – it was a decisive game where he saved us. In the League Cup, every time he plays, he does extremely well. I am very happy that he committed, because I think he is the future goalkeeper at this club."

Whilst it is possible that Martinez will be our long-term goalkeeper, I believe that the battle for the position in the short-term will be between Cech and Szczesny. However, something that is clear to see, is that there is a pile-up of goalkeepers at The Emirates. There may even be a few additions over the next couple of seasons, with Jordan Pickford and Alban Lafont being floated around as possible targets.

David Ospina is the odd man out. Regardless of how he plays over these next few weeks, I feel as though he will be out the door come the summer window.
