It is such a good day for Arsenal fans - William Saliba, according to David Ornstein, has agreed to his Arsenal contract, and he will be around at the club for the long term, as he signs a five-year extension.

This is excellent news for people who were worried he would not sign a contract and end up leaving Arsenal in the coming years. They will now breathe a huge sigh of relief.

There are winners and losers from every big transfer story, and this will not be any different. So, let's look at the winners and losers in the huge story from North London on Thursday morning.

2 winners (and 2 losers) from William Saliba extending his Arsenal contract

Winner: Mikel Arteta

Arteta puts so much effort and pride in Arsenal's defense. You could say it is his most important asset, and Saliba is a leader for Arsenal in that regard.

Having him around for the foreseeable future makes Arteta a relieved man.

He would not have to worry about signing a replacement for one of the very best centre-backs in the world, if not the best, and he can now build with Saliba in what seems like a crucial time for Arsenal and Arteta.

Loser: Cristhian Mosquera

Arsenal signed Mosquera from Valencia earlier this summer to give Arteta some more options in central defense. Mosquera is a quality defender with so much potential, but if Saliba is staying at Arsenal, that will only be utilised sporadically.

Obviously, the season is long, so he will play a fair bit, but for a centre-back with as much potential as Mosquera, he would have wanted to play a bit more in the future, maybe as a starter. With Saliba staying at the club for a while now, that seems like a far-fetched possibility.

Winner: Gabriel

This is probably the best centre-back partnership in all of England. Gabriel and Saliba go together. They understand each other's game perfectly, and have qualities that complement the other's as well.

Having Saliba around would be huge for Gabriel, as he would not have to worry about forming synergy with another centre-back. This is excellent news for the Brazilian, who would be glad that his partner in crime is set to stay for the foreseable future.

Loser: Real Madrid

Well, Real Madrid's interest in Saliba is well-documented. Real Madrid considers him the "Bellingham" of defenders, and having him at the club would have sorted their defense out for the next decade.

However, what makes this more special for Arsenal fans is that he indirectly rejected a move to Real Madrid to stay at Arsenal. There was never an offer or enquiry from Real Madrid, but it was public knowledge that they were looking to pounce if an opportunity had risen.

It is just going to be so special to watch Saliba play for the next
