Bacary Sagna on his way out?
Arsenal right back Bacary Sagna appears to be heading out of the Emirates on a free transfer after Arsenal’s policy of not offering players over the age of 30 long contracts will cost them again. The defender wants a 3 year contract at £100,000 a week but Arsenal’s final offer appears to be at around £90,000 for 2 years.
Sagna is not short of suitors who would be keen to take the right-back on for free this summer, with Manchester City and United both keen to take the Frenchman. Sagna has been consistent for Arsenal this year and a strong defence can be the difference between challenging for the title and finishing scrapping for Champions League places again.
So if Arsenal lose Sagna, who will come in to replace him?
Fortunately it seems that there is a replacement ready to come straight in. Toulouse right-back Serge Aurier is on the move this summer after a promising Ligue 1 season in which he scored 8 goals as well as providing a decent physical presence with his large frame and athletic acceleration.
The right back, who is expected to play a key part for the Ivory Coast in this years World Cup has already expressed a strong desire to sign for the FA Cup champions stating that “Arsenal is my dream” and citing Arsenal’s long history and developing young talents and working with French speaking players.
At just 21 and available for around £7m this could be a perfect solution for Arsenal should Sagna eventually leave North London this Summer.
