Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Sami Khedira a Done Deal?

facebooktwitterreddit

Usually it’s Edinson Cavani’s continual link to Arsenal that I can’t seem to be free of, but not far behind the Cavani rumors is the rumors of the German internaional Sami Khedira, who has been linked to Arsenal for quite some time as well. Arsenal are in known need of a holding midfielder and Khedira could fill that void.

All summer long, this deal fluctuated between “done deal” and “not going to happen.” There was no in between. Well, the inbetween happened, as he went nowhere.

Now, however, reports are surfacing that a deal has been agreed upon to bring the injury-riddled midfielder to the Emirates, with only a fee to be agreed on. If I had a dollar for every time I heard that, I’d be approximately eight dollars richer, give or take a couple.

Khedira’s contract is running out and he is going to move somewhere by next summer, it’s just a matter of where.

According to The Daily Star’s report on October 5th, the deal is “all-but-completed” to bring him to Arsenal.

So is that it? Do we have our answer at midfield?

I hate to be on the fence, but my opinion on this potential acquisition is precisely that – on the fence.

On a positive note, Khedira is world class and would be exactly what Arsenal needs. A true defensive-minded midfielder, Sami Khedira can also contribute to the attack and I thoroughly enjoy the image of the German flanked by Wilshere and Ramsey.

That being said, I think the main thing that Arsenal should avoid in a player is injury proneness (unless it’s Arturo Vidal, please sign Arturo Vidal). When you have Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere spending more time fighting injuries than opposing players, the prospect of adding another injury prone player should make anyone who has ever had any affiliation with the Gunners a bit squeamish.

The verdict?

In my opinion, I wouldn’t sign Sami Khedira. He can’t stay healthy in La Liga and the Premier League is so much more physical. He’s going to get hurt, we’re going to get frustrated and it just isn’t worth it.
