Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Pedro to Rejoin Alexis Sanchez?

facebooktwitterreddit

With January a mere two months away and injuries ravaging the Emirates, it only makes sense that the Arsenal transfer rumors are running rampant. The latest name to be linked to a move to North London is another Barcelona striker, Pedro.

The 27 year old is upset at his lack of playing time, much like his former team mate Alexis Sanchez was when he packed his bags for north London. Pedro was put on the back burners when Luis Suarez was acquired and there really just isn’t room for him anymore. Barcelona are expected to set the price tag at 25 million pounds.

When looking at a comparison between Alexis and Pedro in their time at Barca, it’s actually amazing at how similar they are. Alexis put up 47 goals in 141 games and Pedro put up 42 goals in 147 games.

More from Arsenal Transfer Rumours

Arsenal have a penchant for swooping up out of favor and underused players (Alexis, Danny Welbeck), but they have a compendium of strikers, especially with Theo Walcott due back and Serge Gnabry nearing a return. A move for Pedro simply doesn’t makes sense.

We already have Lukas Podolski complaining about lack of playing time, so adding Pedro would serve no benefit.

Arsene Wenger is reportedly allotted 42 million pounds for transfers this January, so to throw 25 of that at a non-necessity will cause more anger and ire than relief. Arsenal need defense and defense only. Their back line is exhausted and frail while their front line is young and exuberant (though under-performing as of late).

If anything, I could see this move happening in the summer when Arsenal aren’t in such dire straits elsewhere on the squad.
