Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Stiff Competition for Pedro, Draxler
By Josh Sippie
Two of Arsenal’s top transfer targets are facing stiff competition from our direct rivals. Pedro, who has just popped up on the radar recently, is one of Liverpool’s top targets and they are prepared to ‘outbid’ Arsenal.
Julian Draxler, who has been linked to Arsenal since birth, is being pursued by Manchester United as well.
I don’t like the idea of getting into a bidding war for players that we don’t need, and if I know Arsene Wenger at all, I don’t think he’ll like the prospect either. I’d much rather see us sign an uncontested necessity like Romulo then a luxury that could cost a fortune.

Pedro plays the position that Arsenal are the most stacked at, attacking mid/winger. Between Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla and Serge Gnabry, where exactly would Pedro fit in? With a price tag of 25 million pounds, what is the point? Someone would be forced to the back of the line, and none of the guys I listed deserve that.
Julian Draxler plays a similar position as an attacking/left midfielder. Again, for the pricetag that this “wonderkid” would draw, what is the point? Who is Arsenal planning on parting with to make room for these non-necessities?
I don’t think these rumors have any credence. They don’t make sense. But the fact that Wenger didn’t sign a holding mid or a center back in August didn’t make sense either, so they can’t just be discounted as hearsay.
Neither one of these rumors is appealing. Sign Romulo, grab Virgil van Dijk or Stephan Lichtensteiner or someone similar and call it a completed January window. There’s no need to break the bank until a need presents itself. What say you, Gunner nation?
