Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Fabian Schar Open to January Transfer
By Josh Sippie
One Arsenal rumor that has mingled around for quite some time is the possibility of Fabian Schar making the move to the Emirates. I have wanted this move to happen since his oringal linkage during last years Champions League group stage, as Schar handled Chelsea like a true professional.
He’s a physical presence and has tremendous discipline and this is precisely the type of defender that Arsenal need. Physically he’s the same size as Laurent Kocielny, but playing wise, he’s more like Per Mertesacker. How much more perfect a fit are we looking for?
In a bit of good news, Schar recently spoke with Swiss media and had this to say:
"My dream remains to have an experience abroad. I’ve always said that if the opportunity presented itself, I would take it, obviously in agreement with Basel. I need a team with important prospects. I’d like the Bundesliga, Premier League or top Italian clubs like Inter, Milan and Juventus. I couldn’t say no. I want to hear all my options and consider them carefully."
Schar’s contract at FC Basel expires at the end of the year, and no doubt they’d like to get something for him instead of letting him move on for free, so January is prime time to scoop him up and give him a new home.
As I’ve mentioned before, Schar serves two crucial purposes. First of all, he can provide immediate cover for the back four. Second of all, he can be groomed as a replacement for Mertesacker or Kocielny, who are both getting up there in age.
