Arsenal Injury News: Jack Wilshere, Olivier Giroud, Szczesny All Out

Here we are talking about injuries again. It’s the second hottest topic in North London next to sacking Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal suffered two major injuries during their tragedy against Manchester United. Jack Wilshere and Wojciech Szczesny both suffered game-ending injuries; Wilshere to his “glass” ankles and Szczesny seemingly to his rib cage after a jarring collision with Kieran Gibbs.

Both will miss our match up with Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday and both severely cripple our chances. Say what you will about Wilshere’s performance against Manchester United – granted he missed some pristine chances – he did create some wonderful opportunities and his finishing will develop with time. That doesn’t hamper the frustration stemming from his missed chances but still, it’s impossible to deny how solid Wilshere has looked this year.

Then there’s Szczesny. Szczesny’s injury is made even worse by the fact that David Ospina is already out and therefore our starting keeper responsibilities fall to Emiliano Martinez, the young Argentine. He is going to have a huge meal on his plate going up against a Dortmund squad that, while faring atrociously in the Bundesliga, have still maintained dominance in the Champions League.

And then, in the perhaps most baffling of the three injuries, Olivier Giroud has been ruled out as well to nurse his recovering foot. Maybe the cautious approach is the correct one, but after seeing Giroud against Manchester United, I just want more. His goal was absolutely spectacular and goes far beyond anything that Danny Welbeck could conjure up.

But he’s out, and we just have to deal with it. Luckily, none of these appear to be long term injuries so let’s just all say some prayers that they’re back by the weekend.
