The news is escalating that Alexis Sanchez has done Arsenal a tremendous service and lured Arturo Vidal to the Emirates. According to sources, the rumored fee was 21 million pounds and Vidal will be latching onto a five year deal.

If this news proves true, Arturo Vidal would join Petr Cech as two incredibly unlikely candidates to bolster Arsenal’s squad, but who are actually joining Arsenal’s squad.

Arturo Vidal would be incredibly useful. Not only would it be salt in the wound of Manchester United for not being able to sign him, but he would provide immense benefits within the club and former Arsenal man Freddie Ljunberg has picked out some of the best assets of Vidal’s play (via the Telegraph):

"“There [are] some rumours about Vidal, a great player, and he gets fuming if he loses the ball, so I like that. That kind of player would be great for the club. I hope they can challenge for the Premier League title. I think in one or two years we’ll have a squad that’s going to compete with anyone. With one or two signings here and there, we can get a stronger squad. We’re getting there and I’m really looking forward to the next couple of years.”"

What bit sounds the best? “He gets fuming if he loses the ball.” Who does that sound like? Our current resident Chilean.

For anyone who has seen Arturo Vidal play, he does have some distinct similarities to Alexis Sanchez. He is a hound on the ball, as he does all he can to win it and maintain it. He even has a little Jack Wilshere in him in the way he drives at the opposition defense with no regard for his own well-being. Again, that can lead to injuries as we have seen, but at the end of the day it is a useful trait for a bruiser like Arturo Vidal to have.

Vidal provides so much depth at midfield that it might even be too much depth, if that is possible. He can shoot from distance, string a pass and defend in the middle of the pitch rather well to boot.

Plus, there is the always beneficial link of putting two countrymen who are so close on the same team. Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal are buds. They barbecue, hang out and you know, do things that friends do. That will only bring about positives on the pitch.

That kind of thing is the same reason I would love to see Benzema at Arsenal. He and Olivier Giroud would provide a masterful partnership. One domino at a time though.

Hopefully this rumor is confirmed next week like the reports are indicating.
