We are now getting to the point where the winter transfer window is yearned for. If nothing else, it gives us something to talk about. And yet, Arsenal are not in dire need of anything more than reinforcements. But that will not stop the rumors from frothing like rabies in a racoon’s mouth.

The frothiest of all rumors right now involves PSG striker-turned-disgruntled-winger Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan came to PSG with the intention of forming a partnership with the Swedish Behemoth, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but what has ensued is a bit more complicated. Cavani has had constant frustrations over not being a striker. However, it did appear that with Zlatan’s inevitable departure next summer, all Cavani had to do was wait it out and wa-la, he’s a striker.

But then Edinson Cavani spoke. And what happens when people speak? Bad things. Have a look at the dastardly verbalizing, via ESPN FC.

“Sure [I would return to Italy]. The future of players is always unpredictable, I would go back to where I lived three fantastic seasons that have allowed me to be here in Paris.”

One might even say that the future is so unpredictable that Cavani could move further away from this city that he “holds in his heart” (not London, Naples), and come to Arsenal. But that would be a stretch.

On the more realistic side, Real Madrid is still not utilizing Isco and the young Spaniard could find Arsenal’s sudden dominance appealing. Or maybe just the promise of more play time is what he finds appealing. Or being appreciated. That is cool too.

Isco is having a tough time at Real Madrid. Not because he is inadequate, but because Real Madrid is so juiced up with talent that it is easy to get suffocated out of first-team contention. Isco has always been a crowd favorite, but with James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos commanding intense price tags and the front three of Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema nothing short of indispensable, it was always going to be tough.

The frustrations have been well-documented. Isco was not happy that he was pushed by the wayside, making way for James and Kroos. With all the work he has put in and all the success he has had, there are few teams out there that would not be starting him.

However, the complications arise because Arsenal may be one of those teams. The only vacancies at Arsenal are in depth roles. If Isco were to arrive right now, he may find an opportunity at right wing, but the Ox would be none too pleased. He could be groomed as Santi Cazorla’s successor, but Arsenal may already have one of those in Aaron Ramsey. Isco is said to be worth around £33m, which, while expensive for a depth signing, is well worth the price.

Arsenal are involved in a lot of competitions, though, so playing time would always be there. Plus, it would benefit them immensely in situations like against Bayern Munich, where world class talent was needed to cover for exhaustion. Will that be enough to coax Isco away form the allure of Madrid stardom?

Only time – and money – will tell.
