Arsenal have always had a surplus of attack-minded, even box-to-box midfielders. Between Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Tomas Rosicky, Mikel Arteta, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, it was a question as to why they would ever need more.

Well, now the answer is clearer than ever.

As it stands, Arsenal have just Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil capable of playing the No. 10 role. You could argue that Alexis could too, but that leaves a shortage on the wings. And only Cazorla can play the role next to Francis Coquelin. How useful would an Isco be right about now? Instead of having to wheel out Santi Cazorla on his off day, Arsenal could instead opt to rotate in Isco, who has played every midfield role at Real Madrid, from defensive to attacking. He is a tireless worker and would fit Arsenal’s scheme perfectly.

The fact is that in a few short years, Arsenal will be without Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky and probably Santi Cazorla as well. Not to mention the two former names are high injury risk players as is. Speaking of high injury risk, it is becoming a serious risk to hope that Jack Wilshere can remain healthy. There should always be a place on this team for Wilshere when he is healthy, but the fact is that he has not proven that he can do that yet.

Aaron Ramsey is not immune to injuries either. Anything but. His persistent hamstring injuries have struck again and you can bet that overwork was the culprit.

What is the best solution to overwork and injuries? Bringing in a new player. Hello, Isco.

If the current situation at Arsenal leaves us desperate for another midfielder, then each passing days makes it even more desperate. Those aging guys are going to retire and those injured guys are going to remain prone. That leaves us right where we started, with Cazorla, who never gets injured, and Ozil.

Reports have indicated that Isco has submitted a transfer request to Real Madrid. But then again, we cannot believe everything we read on the Metro. But one thing that we do know is that Isco is not happy with the limited role that he has. We also know that Real Madrid is unlikely to expand his role so long as they have the prolific midfield that they have and so long as they keep adding to it like they do. He is always going to rotate from position to position to cover for injuries or exhaustion.

Isco has two great resources at Arsenal. He and Santi Cazorla teamed up at Malaga and in one year they established an excellent partnership. Reuniting the two would be a pretty solid move.

Then there is Mesut Ozil. The German maestro made the jump from Real Madrid to Arsenal himself (if you recall) and Isco can see the success that Ozil is currently having.

Isco is a peripheral player at Los Blancos. Arsenal has become known for poaching peripheral players. Look at Alexis Sanchez at Barcelona. Isco would be a fantastic addition and much-needed reinforcements. Don’t hold your breath for a January transfer, but the summer may be beckoning.
