Arsenal Vs Olympiakos: 5 Things We Learned

Arsenal stared fate in the face and conquered it, as they downed Olympiakos by a score of 3-0 to advance to the knockout stages. Here are five things we learned in the process.
Believe it or not, Arsenal are into the next round of the Champions League. The all-important knockout stages, where the Gunners have met their fate in each of the past 16 years. After losing the initial two match days to Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos, Arsenal were written off. It was going to be the first time in the past 15 years that they would unable to make it out of the group stages.

But that did not happen. Arsenal beat Bayern Munich, then beat Dinamo Zagreb. They were left with their fate in their own hands. All they had to do was go into Athens and beat Olympiakos 2-0 or by scoring three goals or more. Not the easiest task. But they did it. You can check out all the goals and highlights here.
By now we have all seen the game. Giroud scored a hat trick. Arsenal kept a clean sheet. It was gorgeous. As we do every match, now is the time to pick out some important parts of the game and deduce what we learned. This has taken a rather negative turn in the past, but it’s hard to pick out any negatives from Arsenal’s dominance in Greece. As such, all five of these points are incredibly positive. Why? Because Arsenal continued their historic, 16 year streak.
So let’s get started with what we learned. The first has to do with the rather unlikely midfield combo that held down the fort against Olympiakos.
