1. He Is Consistent

The first part of Joel Campbell’s game that really struck me as special was his composure and coolness on the ball. But the second, and obviously the most surprising of them all, is his consistency. So many players flow in and out of form depending on who they are playing, how their team mates are playing and so many other forces. Thus far into the starting XI life of Joel Campbell, no matter the opponent, no matter the team mates, he is consistent.

Against Swansea, when Arsenal was floundering early on, Campbell looked composed and steady on the ball. Against Bayern Munich, when Arsenal got swatted, Joel Campbell was looking cool and reliable on the ball. Since that time it has been all successful outings that have been largely thanks to Joel Campbell, who has become such a valuable piece of this offense.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott are not consistent. And that is a real bugaboo. The Ox is prolific one day and a loose marauder the next day. Theo Walcott is having his runs picked out one day and getting ignored the next. Not Joel Campbell though. The Costa Rican has yet to have a really bad game. It is still a small sample size, just six starts, but we can only analyze what we are given. And it is pretty clear that Campbell’s style of play revolves around a consistent base.
