Arsenal Reaching Crisis Stage With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal are lagging on the Jamie Vardy transfer while Manchester City near a move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. It’s safe to call this a crisis situation.
It was not all that long ago that I made the claim that Arsenal would be better off with Borussia Dortmung striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang than they would with Jamie Vardy. They are very similar strikers. Both have fantastic quickness on and off the ball and they prey on getting behind the defense.

But they also have the ability to create for themselves. Both Vardy and Aubameyang know how to navigate tight spaces.
The difference is in longevity and experience. Aubameyang is turning 27 this month and Vardy is already 29. Vardy has only had one big year, while Aubameyang has done this before. His goals have been steadily increasing since he first touched down in Germany and that is a promising sign going into his prime.
The problem is that prime may be spent at Manchester City. According to the Guardian, City are keen on pairing Aguero with the Gabonese front man but will have to fork up £55m in order to land him. If I was a betting man, I would put a hefty wager on that price not being an obstacle for the oil tycoons.
This is a bad thing. A very bad thing. I would be more concerned with City landing Aubameyang then with Arsenal’s delay with Vardy. Mainly because Aubameyang is an improved version of Vardy. Aubameyang is younger, more explosive and has more upside.

If City land Aubameyang, we need to ask questions. Questions such as why Arsenal was not in the chase. Or, if we were, why we lost. Wenger is on record saying that Kroenke is giving them all the money they need, so why then has there been little to no mention of Aubameyang coming to Arsenal, while Vardy has hogged the spotlight and subsequently put Arsenal on hold for the duration of the Euros?
If I do say so, that is poor transfer management, and it’s a situation that could have been avoided. It feels as though Arsenal may have put all their eggs in Vardy’s basket and forgot to cover their tracks with back ups (as if Aubameyang should ever be a back up).
The main reason this bothers me is because of the play style. Arsenal needed someone who could play like a successful Theo Walcott. It was the perfect offset to Olivier Giroud. Aubameyang was the perfect option for that, but it felt like he wasn’t going to be on the move, so we went for Vardy.

If Aubameyang truly was available… well, like I said, not a pretty day in the social media world. To make it even more painful, Aubameyang had no ego. Marco Reus said it himself, he said that that passion you see on the pitch is just that – on the pitch. You won’t find a more down to earth guy. Oh well, at least Alexandre Lacazette is still available.
