Arsenal: Time To Kick Up Dust With Adrien Rabiot
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal appear resigned to lose out on the Grzegorz Krychowiak chase, but that opens up a window of opportunity to reignite for Adrien Rabiot.
Arsenal look to have lost out on Grzegorz Krychowiak. Infuriatingly. But there might be a silver lining to this massive cumulonimbus cloud. If Krychowiak goes to PSG, like the rumors say, then PSG is clearly aiming to pair up the Polish bruiser with Marco Verratti to form a partnership that can make lesser men wet themselves.

But there is an oddball out here. With Blaise Matuidi still in the picture, it is clear that Adrien Rabiot still has to show patience. It’s like he has to go to the end of the line and start over.
Last time something similar happened, Rabiot’s mother ripped him away from Manchester City and they ended up at PSG.
Arsenal need to take advantage. And I’m not talking about signing him right away. That would be silly and ill-advised. Unless he is a closet striker, then by all means. Back to the topic though. All I want Arsenal to do is talk to Rabiot. Get in his ear. Let Wenger promise him paradise and all that fun stuff. Tell him something enticing like ‘don’t give up on playing in your homeland yet. Give it a year. If it hasn’t gone your way, come on over.’
In a year, Arsenal’s midfield will be much different. I don’t think Santi Cazorla has much left in him. One more year, maybe, then he will start being weened out. Mohamed Elneny will probably still have a bit part role and Coquelin might too, though he may weed himself out if all he can do is defend.
Ramsey and Wilshere have to prove something this year. Wilshere has to stay healthy and Ramsey has to prove he wants to be here. Meanwhile, Jon Toral will have a shot, but he is no guarantee either.
What I’m saying is, there are a lot of moving parts and, come next year, we are going to have a much clearer indication of what this midfield is shaping up to be. We will know where all of our muddled mess of midfielders are headed.
If, after this year, Ramsey is brilliant and Wilshere is healthy and Toral is promising, then tell Rabiot best of luck. He was never ours anyway.

But if we get towards the end of the year and Ramsey hasn’t gotten the role he wants and Barcelona are barking while Wilshere has six broken bones across his four extremities and Toral flops, well then we can revisit the situation. Pop out of the dust we kicked up and beckon Rabiot over to England. He may be eyeing the captaincy at PSG at some point, but if the kid wants to play now and all he keeps getting are promises and position-stealers, then it’s time to move on.
And his mom knows it too. It’s not like PSG is the apple of his eye. He started at Manchester City. That didn’t go well. Now he’s at PSG. If that doesn’t go well, maybe Arsenal is next to give him a chance.
Rabiot is going to be fantastic. He is already pretty damn good. His ball-winning ability is great and he has tremendous control and an eye for the pass. And he’s still not settled at PSG. The Guardian went into depth on Rabiot and closed with a quote from the kid about if he was resigned to stay at the Parisien outfit and he was anything but conclusive. It was one of those veiled remarks that could be taken either way, depending on where he ends up.

Wenger has shown an ability to do this for Arsenal. Especially lately. He spoke with Granit Xhaka before the 2015/16 season even began. Do the same with Rabiot. Just let him know he has options and give him time to think. That’s all you have to do here.
