Arsenal are yet again being linked to some rather sensationalized rumours, this time involving James Rodriguez. What on earth is going on?

Arsenal are the subject of many sensationalized and fantastical rumors. Continual links to Mario Gotze, Julian Draxler and Gonzalo Higuain, none of which are now or have ever been with the club.

It is a yearly ritual with Arsenal and their apparent forays into the transfer market. They are linked with every half decent player under the sun and are never actually close to signing any of them whatsoever.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Well, this summer, perhaps the best of the lot has surfaced in the past few days, with reports stating that Arsenal are set to abandon their pursuit of Riyad Mahrez – another ridiculous rumour that never had any standing and is unlikely to be completed – in favour of Real Madrid James Rodriguez.

Have you ever heard anything so ridiculous in your life? Who in the world has essentially made up these rumours in the hope that they will get some poor Arsenal blogger writing about it on their site?

It is an utterly ridiculous rumour that will never come to pass. First and foremost, Rodriguez is not necessarily for sale – though he is struggling to break into the Real Madrid starting eleven which could aid Arsenal’s make-believe cause. And secondly, even if he was, would Arsenal ever pay the astronomical fee that it would take to bring him to the Emirates?

There has not been a fee quoted with the reports, but it would likely be north of £60 million, smashing Arsenal’s record fee for a player and undermining all of Wenger’s principles in the transfer market.

Sometimes, the transfer rumour mill is just too much, and this is a prime example. This deal will never go through, and if it does, well, I’ll look like an idiot after writing this!
