Super-agent Mino Raiola has questioned Wenger’s ‘balls’ in the transfer market, but look at Arsenal. His comments are asinine.

No agent has the same fame as Mino Raiola. He has had the privilege of representing some of the biggest names in the game. Arsenal rarely do business with him and recent comments should prove why.

Raiola, who represents the currently-maligned Paul Pogba, claims that Wenger lacks the “balls” to do business in the transfer market because he won’t spend money. These comments were specifically related to Paul Pogba. Raiola claims that Wenger is a known admirer of Pogba but lacked the confidence to go after the expensive Frenchman.

This is what separates Wenger from all the rest, and if you look at the differing states of Manchester United and Arsenal at the current juncture, it will all make sense. This all applies to the world too, not just sports.

Wenger doesn’t make decisions with his “balls”, otherwise he would end up like Jose Mourinho, jumping from club to club without a home, signing big names and thinking that makes him a big club. Mourinho himself said that United is a big club because they spend.

That is completely asinine. You don’t make transfers based on who costs the most money. And when you do, it doesn’t mean that you are brave or bigger than anyone else. It is far more brave to sign someone who is massive amounts of pounds cheaper who pans out better. That is brave.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

That is what we have with Wenger. He makes decisions with his mind and that is how we have turned up such talents as Patrick Vieira, Robin van Persie, etc.

And if you are that desperate to see Wenger spend big, fine – he has. Ozil, Alexis, Xhaka and Mustafi were all expensive signings. He isn’t afraid to spend big. He merely avoids spending big just to spend. Again, that doesn’t mean he lacks “balls” or anything. It means he is a cool, composed calculator that looks into more factors than just an enormous price tag.

Raiola knows what he is doing, he’s a smart man. There is a reason why he represents the biggest names in the sport. But he has Wenger pegged all wrong and it’s actually kind of frustrating to see Le Prof characterized as such.

We all get frustrated with Wenger for his slow, deliberate transfer windows at times, but the man has a specific vision for what he wants for his club and that doesn’t always involve overpriced divas.

In reference to Paul Pogba, what would be bring to Arsenal? Sure he is a talented midfielder, but he is not a deep-lying midfielder along the lines of what we needed. Xhaka is. Just look at his goal against Hull and you will see the difference. The Swiss didn’t want to shoot, he was dribbling around, looking for a pass.

Pogba would have cut loose seventeen steps before Xhaka did. It’s just one event, but it’s a representation of the differences between these two midfielders and highlights why Wenger chose the cheaper one. It has nothing to do with “balls”, courage or cowardice. That makes the transfer window look like nothing more than a game of rock-paper-scissors.
