8. Alex Iwobi

I totally get now why Wenger was so insistent on getting Alex Iwobi into the starting XI last year at the expense of Joel Campbell, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Even Serge Gnabry for that matter.

While the Nigerian doesn’t radiate with magical qualities or ooze ‘skill moves’ and utter perfection (that all comes with time) what he does provide is a verifiable threat that backs down from no one, utilizes his strength and – as we suddenly found out, knows how to pass the ball very well.

He is second in the league in assists (and he’s only eighth on the list? Ludicrous) for crying out loud.

The only reason he is down this far, which again, there is no shame in, is because of his lack of consistency. He can’t seem to put consecutive matches together where he is a consistent threat. Against Basel, for instance, he faded from the word ‘go’.

As such, I foresee a lot of changes with Iwobi’s power ranking. He is going to climb up and down this ladder like it is going out of style.
