Arsenal appear ready to give Jack Wilshere another (another) [another] chance. Hard to argue though, it’s the next logical step forward.

Arsenal’s midfield is becoming more of an enigma than ever, as nothing seems set. Everyone has made a legitimate claim to the starting roles but nothing is definite just yet. Especially with Santi Cazorla’s injury frequency picking up by the season.

Looking forward, we have to start identifying more options for future midfield prosperity. I love to think that Ramsey and Xhaka can partner for the next five years, but realistically, injuries and Arsene Wenger’s overthinking are bound to get in the way and I don’t have faith in Coquelin developing further than he already has, at least on the offensive side of things.

I’ve fantasized about Isco coming to Arsenal too. He would be the perfect heir to Santi Cazorla as they play a very similar style. Only Isco is physically bigger and therefore harder to bully off the ball.

Realistically though, we have a very similar player already in our midst, just out on loan. Obviously I am referring to Jack Wilshere.

Giving him another lifeline with a new deal may seem like a waste of time and money to some. His health has consistently been a problem for the Gunner’s and there is no reason to think that it would change any time soon.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Other then the fact that he has already put 684 minutes under his belt while at Bournemouth. Which is literally exactly what we needed to see. Not only that, but no one has hit the post more this Premier League season than the Englishman.

Wenger wanting to offer Wilshere a new deal when he returns is perfectly natural – assuming he can stay healthy and turn those 684 minutes into 2000 minutes. He is making an impact slowly but surely with the Cherries and if he can put up 2000 minutes with them, he will come back to Arsenal healthier than ever and ready to contribute to his boyhood club.

So yes, a new contract makes total sense. We have to take his involvement to the next level. If he wants to step up to his full potential, then obviously he is going to need more chances with more time with the Gunners.

Even if he gets hurt, it’s still a logical recourse. Abou Diaby was worth all the effort we put into him and so is Jack Wilshere. The potential is compelling enough.
