Arsenal finally broke their draw streak and won at home against Bournemouth, but Alexis and Mesut Ozil wanted more. Or were they just out of sync?

Arsenal’s win over Bournemouth was a return to what we wanted to see. Or, at the very least, it was the first step on the path to getting back there.

It’s been no secret that over the past three matches, the Gunner’s may have been pulling out draws against top tier teams, but their offense was also looking incredibly shaky, if not downright out of ideas. The chances have been few and far between and the shots on target have been minuscule.

In the last two games before Bournemouth, the Gunners managed just two shots on target.

The Cherries allowed Wenger’s men to fire four shots on target, with three of them slotting home. That’s still a bit less than we would like to see, but as mentioned, it’s an improvement.

This offense slowly got back into the swing of things and by the end, looked ready to pick out some more goals.

Obviously Ozil and Alexis had a huge part in that. Alexis scored two of the three Arsenal goals and created another five chances to top Mesut Ozil’s three.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

As these are the two main men in this attack, that’s a positive sign that they have gotten over that lumpy hill that had so stalled them

But there was one thing I saw in the match that piqued my interest. There were frequent occurrences of either Alexis or Ozil pressuring the ball all on their own, then, after then ball left the premise, they would turn to their team mates and throw up their arms in frustration, wondering why more people weren’t helping.

It happened a handful of times until late in the game when it was clear that the Gunner’s were hunkering down. But even then, you could see it from time to time.

At first I liked it because I thought they were just showing that added hunger and ambition, but then I wondered if it was symptom of miscommunication. Clearly Wenger wasn’t intending to press the ball that heavily as a squad. Having one man do it is standard procedure to move play along but to have them react so negatively at the lack of help raises questions.
