Arsenal won’t be doing any business this winter window, but with the return of Danny Welbeck, a long-time Wenger truth may finally come true.

Arsenal has already been ruled out of making any January transfers and while that may change if the right deal is presented, it is foolish to hope for a massive signing in the winter window. Arsene Wenger just ain’t about that life.

Instead, we can expect more of Wenger’s favorite saying.

“We get [insert player name] back, that is as good as a transfer.”

Wenger says this all the time and it rarely, if ever, amounts to what he thinks. He has used it on Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and more, but they always came up short. It was never as good as a transfer.

But this winter, I hope he says it, because he may damn well be vindicated this time around. While Bellerin figures to be back already, Wenger can say that getting Danny Welbeck back is as good as a transfer because it most certainly is.

Danny Welbeck has been out all season and it has been a big missing presence. Even if we aren’t openly wallowing for his return, what he will bring to the team when he does return is going to be exactly what the Gunners need in those matches that aren’t necessarily going their way.

Isn’t that what a transfer is supposed to do? Fix a problem that can often arise? Danny Welbeck will do that.

There have been too many times this season when the Gunner’s attack has stalled and looked downright paltry. They needed a fresh burst of pace and energy without the lessening of physicality. Alexis could do it all minus the added physicality and Giroud can do all minus the pace.

But Welbeck brings it all to the table and in pretty ample quantities. The Englishman has used each of the three abilities to bail us out at one point or another and he will have tons of more opportunities when he returns from injury and rejoins the club, just like a transfer.

I’m sure Arsene Wenger is just chomping at the bit to use his token line when Welbeck returns. I know I’m dying to hear it.

Welbeck could be that added glue to hold this team together when we weren’t sure if they could weather the storm. And I cannot wait to see him bombarding up and down the pitch soon.
