Arsenal has seemingly been chasing Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubemayeng for quite some time, but he’s falling down the totem pole.

Arsenal’s need for a true, out-and-out striker has gone unanswered for quite some time. Arsene Wenger does not believe that he should have to empty the bank vault just to bring in a guy who can toe-poke a ball into a massive net.

As such, we have had to make due with what we have and suddenly, it’s working. Alexis Sanchez has slipped into the role and shown that he can be our Aubemayeng, our Aguero, our Suarez. It’s not always a consistent role, but he has shown that he can do it and that’s all we can ask for at this juncture.

Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud are also there and so too is Lucas Perez, so I actually feel pretty confident in my assertion that if we aren’t buying Antoine Griezmann, we don’t need a new striker. We have all the prototypes covered and they are all pretty solid options.

You have the big, bruiser in Giroud, the South American wizard in Alexis, the hybrid in Welbeck and the goal-poacher in Lucas. They have all shown that they can do their jobs pretty well and they all have more time to give. So why finagle with something that’s working?

I wouldn’t exactly protest an Aubameyang signing, but still. I feel like there are just better things out there to focus on.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

As I pointed out earlier today, I don’t even see Aubameyang as the No. 1 target on Dortmund anymore. To me, that honor falls on the young American hotshot Christian Pulisic, who can fit a diverse array of roles, has a massively high ceiling and can give Wenger another bragging right.

It’s a good feeling, to be where we are. The only thing we can legitimately say that we need is a bit more depth out wide, perhaps, but even then, you are digging.

When is the last time we haven’t needed a new striker or a new midfielder? This is without a doubt the most well-equipped the Gunner’s have been since the Invincibles and it shines all the brighter in the lukewarm reception of Aubameyang rumors.

It may be a quiet January for Arsenal, but that will be met with less ire this time around and far more celebration. That is, so long as this cast of characters can hold out for the title.
