Arsenal probably won’t make any major January signings, and we have Danny Welbeck to thank for that. No seriously, thank you Danny Welbeck.

Arsenal is an antonym of “big January signings”. But then again, there aren’t that many teams out there that make big January signings at all. Moving in the middle of a season is a rarity. That is, unless you’re Julian Draxler and feel like your club is a blight.

Julian Draxler aside, there are two players whom the Gunners are fairly heavily linked to – Andre Silva and, perhaps less heavily, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Excluding the latter, because that is absolutely not going to happen in a winter transfer month, we can look at Andre Silva. Not a bad investment. The Portuguese is a solid future and present option and center forward has been a major bugaboo for Arsenal lately.

But this year is different. This year, the Gunners actually have a surplus at the most illusive of positions.

So, let me play the spoiler here. If Wenger was not willing to add another striker to the mix when he literally only had Olivier Giroud, then why would he do it now? I’m not being a party pooper, I’m being a realist. He gave Theo Walcott his fateful failing at Arsenal before he gave an outside signing a proper chance.

Now, with Silva and Aubameyang linked, we are less likely than ever, but that’s actually a good thing. With Giroud and Alexis already holding down the fort and Lucas waiting patiently, the Gunners will also be welcoming back Danny Welbeck who, as I mentioned not that long ago, really is going to work just like a transfer.

When Welbeck returns, we will have four solid center forwards, all of whom have their own unique ability.

It’s going to get cluttered and some will be frustrated, but for the team as a whole, this is great news. This is a positive step. Keeping everyone happy is another topic altogether, but let’s take one step at a time.

Rumors can be annoying too, especially when you actually need something. I think back to Kim Kallstrom, obviously. It’s just not a good situation for a Gooner to be in.

Thankfully we aren’t in it. We are in the opposite situation. Let the Silva and Aubameyang rumors rain in, there is no chance of a winter move. And Welbeck makes that situation perfectly okay.
