Arsenal will have a week to mull over their disappointing losses that now see them nine points back, but Alexis Sanchez is doing all he can to change the tune.

A tough couple of matches, both on the road, to Everton and Manchester City safely sees Arsenal in their favored position of fourth, a whole nine points back from league leading Chelsea. It’s a sad spot to be in, but with with the next six matches ahead, the Gunner’s are in prime position to nab all 18 possible points.

And that all starts and ends with Alexis. The Chilean just turned 28 and after receiving birthday wishes from all his fans, voiced a very optimistic opinion: “The best is yet to come.”

I don’t know about you, but that has me pumped up. At a time like this, the team needs a spiritual leader and with no one else stepping up to speak out about the recent string of disappointments, something like this is massive.

It could also mean a variety of things. Perhaps Alexis has seen the next, docile run of fixtures and sees 18 points for his club to nab. Anything less can and should be viewed as a disappointment.

I don’t think we have to worry about that though. This will all come together rather nicely. A week long break for Ozil to rest his legs, some home fixtures against lesser teams to rejuvenate confidence and the Gunners should go into the New Year with massive smiles on their faces.

It could also relate to his contract situation, however. Alexis, for the first time in awhile, came out and spoke up about his situation at Arsenal and was very clear and concise – he loves it here. He loves the fans. He loves the challenges. He just wants faith invested in him.

Far be it from me to speculate (ha!) but that sounds like a call that Wenger would be a complete fool to ignore. Get him locked up and let that moral victory carry a significant amount of momentum going forward.

Just like he does on the pitch at times, the Chilean is yet again single-handedly changing then whole tune. This is the holiday season and most Gooner’s are still moping (I know I am) but with Alexis promising better things to come, who am I to doubt?
