Arsenal: Edinson Cavani A Summer Dream Worth Pursuing
Edinson Cavani could be available if Arsenal are interested in the summer. He would most certainly be a dream worth pursuing, even at hefty prices.
Amid the ridiculousness of the transfer window, fans are allowed to believe, to hope, to aspire. To hold dreams of possible incomings, the wondrous talents that could join, the mouthwatering lineup that could be assembled, the trophies that would inevitably come flowing. Arsenal and their fans are like every other club.

The tentative spending of Arsene Wenger has somewhat restricted the wildness of such dreams. Nonetheless, that does not stop hopeless optimists like me thinking up possible names of possible signings.

The latest to have taken my eye is Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani. While Arsenal have been linked with a possible move for the Uruguayan for many years, all the way back til when he was at Napoli, in fact, it is only this season, primarily due to the greater role in the PSG attack with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s summer departure, that I become enamoured with his play. Moreover, while this may seem like an unlikely candidate for a move to the Emirates, Cavani has expressed, publicly, an interest in playing, one day at least, in England:
"“Every footballer knows the Premier League is a great league. It’s very competitive and it’s among the best leagues in the world. In football you never know what is going to happen. If one day I have the opportunity to play in England, I am sure I would enjoy it there.”"
Now, while there is nothing but unsubstantiated rumours and vague comments regarding possible enjoyment playing in the Premier League, the transfer optimist that I am, still hopes to see Cavani in North London. With Zlatan now out the picture, he has taken centre-stage in Paris, scoring 18 Ligue Un goals in the same number of games.
That is a sensational record. Moreover, he offers far more than just goals to the team. In fact, his finishing, especially when given time to survey his options, is one of the weakest aspects of his game. It is his relentless movement, his mobility, the timing of his runs in behind, the way he peels to the back post or darts across the front post that make him such a fantastic lone spearhead for any side.

Age is an issue. Cavani is now 29 years old but is now entering the final 18 months of his contract and could be prized away on a cut-price deal in the summer. I have previously written about how there is no other attacker, within reason, that I would rather see at Arsenal in the summer than Antoine Griezmann. Well, Cavani is a very close second
