Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Giroud Puts Cavani Out Of Misery
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal has been tied to Edinson Cavani since ever, but Olivier Giroud has put a nail in the coffin. It won’t stop the rumors from springing up, however.
Arsenal and Edinson Cavani share a transfer rumor link that has surpassed the test of time, and every other test that links go through. No matter what happens and what is said, there is still this persisting belief that one day, Cavani will come to North London.

When Zlatan left and freed Cavani for his sought-after striker role at PSG, there was still belief. When Arsenal signed Welbeck as their striker, there was still belief. There will always be a belief that Edinson Cavani is destined for North London.
But there shouldn’t be.
First of all, after seeing Cavani botch numerous open opportunities against the North Londoners in the Champions League, I can’t fathom a Gooner who can look at him and think him an upgradeon anything we already possess.
Ospina made some fine saves on the Uruguayan, but there is no hiding the fact that Cavani should have put at least one away.
But lo and behold, the rumors are back. Cavani has not ruled out moving to the Premier League “one day” but, at 29 years of age, “one day” is quickly fading away. Olivier Giroud may be able to pound in the goals at 30, but it’s certainly not for everyone. Particularly when trying to make it in the Premier League for the first time.

And speaking of the big Frenchman, his new contract should essentially put a final stop to any hopes that Cavani would be making his way to North London. Giroud is now locked in until 2020, with the club showing faith that the Giroud they see now will still be worth the money in a few more years.
Hard to doubt that. Giroud is only getting better with age, much like his countryman Laurent Koscielny, and I have to think that the stiffer the competition gets, the more Giroud will continue to improve.
So Cavani, yet again, serves no point. And the link to Arsenal should be put out of it’s misery. Cavani is similar to Giroud in his size and skill set, but dare I say that Cavani has actually proven more apt at skidding glaring chances than Giroud?

Regardless, this rumor should be done for good. While I doubt it will be, because Cavani to Arsenal is always going to pull headlines, there is no way, barring something drastic, that this move would happen.
