Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Karim Benzema Would Be Deadweight
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal were apparently offered Karim Benzema, but it’s too little too late. Benzema would quickly turn into massive dead weight.
There was a time where I would have put Karim Benzema at the top of Arsenal’s wishlist. Olivier Giroud was coyly saying that he would love to be paired with his countryman on the club level and talks seemed to be heating up.

But between his sex tape scandal that excluded him from the Euros and his fading relevance at Real Madrid, the usefulness of bidding for this particular Frenchman has all but evaporated.
At this point, I see no use for Benzema, and I’m not just being a prude. For starters, he’s 29 and he has clearly been weened out of Los Blancos. That could seem appealing because of a supposed cut price tag that would come with it, but this is Benzema. I don’t think he will ever come cheap.
Not to mention the fact that he is also considering a move China. Also known as the biggest bank in the footballing world. The Gunners would have to sink some serious dough into this investment in order to compete with the wages that China can offer.
Which would lead to a point where Wenger would have all this money invested in the guy and I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if his relevance in the club faded really quick. If it can happen at Real Madrid, it can happen at Arsenal. Especially seeing as how we have four quality strikers. All of whom have something to prove.

Which brings me to another point – Benzema wouldn’t have a damn thing to prove. He knows his own worth and I don’t see why he would put in the extra effort like Welbeck or Lucas to prove that he belongs. I could see him pulling the name card and that’s that. But of course, that is all speculation. He could have a fire lit under his arse for all I know.
I just feel the odds are more in favor of him becoming a cash cow that doesn’t pay back what is invested in him.
Which means that Wenger won’t sign him. He knows the risk involved and the reward isn’t worth it. He may have one hell of a track record, but give Arsenal’s current stock of striker some credit. Not all of them can say that they are equal to Benzema in his prime, but Benzema may be out of his prime and our strikers have proven a lot in very little time.
