Arsenal are in a tough situation regarding the title race, so there is absolutely no time to lose. It’s time to go Danny Welbeck or go home.

I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that I am tired of the regular Arsenal meltdown that happens every two months or so. Just when you think they are back on top of things and have turned everything around, you get hit with a 2-1 loss to Watford at the Emirates while Chelsea draws against Liverpool.

Like I said, frustration. Flusterment. A whole slew of words can be used to describe that.

It’s desperation time. Seriously. With Chelsea at the weekend and a whole nine points separating us, something drastic has to happen because anything less than a win should solidify Chelsea as the champions.

This should go without saying, but sending the same crew out there as what we saw against Watford is a death march. Get ready to be slaughtered like we did to them earlier in the year at home.

What it comes down to is the element of surprise. I highlighted yesterday how important it was to do something different. Lucas suits that need pretty well because not a lot of teams know what he can do or have had to face him.

But Danny Welbeck is another secret weapon that is actually more secret than you’d think.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

The Englishman has not featured at striker much for Arsenal in these past two years and most of what we’d face against Chelsea has not had to contend with the pure athleticism that Welbeck boasts.

Couple that with the fact that I have not seen a striker look as confident as Welbeck did against Southampton in years and I’d say we are on to something. It’s time to go big or go home. Bring out the big changes against the Blues. For starters, they can’t really do any worse than the what we saw on Tuesday.

Danny Welbeck still has a very small sample size, but that is where the high risk, high reward comes into it. If Arsene Wenger was surprised by Welbeck’s return from injury and how superb he was – and he’s the guys manager – then imagine how surprised Antonio Conte and his defenders will be.

Times, they are a-changing when I am advocating for Giroud’s removal but we have to change things and I actually believe that Wenger sees that to. Go Danny Welbeck or go home!
