Arsenal vs Bayern Munich: Danny Welbeck Has Throne Waiting
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal need to put their best foot forward against Bayern Munich, and that includes taking some chances. Danny Welbeck isn’t even really a ‘chance’.
The theme of my Arsenal vs Bayern Munich pregame has been mentality. We have to send a side out there that is hungry, not just for personal goals and coffee makers, but for trophies and wins and even just places in the starting XI.

I have a dream attack in my head for Arsenal and it’s pretty simple and easy to explain. Giroud up front, flanked by Alexis Sanchez and, you guessed it, Danny Welbeck.
I was hesitant at first, including Welbeck. Solely because I know how he runs on confidence and Bayern is a cracker of a club. So if he goes out there and turns stale and frustrated, it could effect his performances back home in England, where the Gunners may or may not still be chasing a Premier League title.
But then it hit me that Arsenal probably has a better chance of winning the Champions League than the Premier League, so we should absolutely be putting our most capable foot forward.
Theo Walcott is not a capable foot. Alex Iwobi is not a capable foot. These two have their moments but right now they are both a bit down and frustrating them more against one of the best sides in the whole world doesn’t seem like the smartest decision in the world.

Starting Alexis, who is always hungry, always wants to win, and can’t sleep if he doesn’t score, goes without saying.
Starting Giroud, who is more confident than anyone, has scored against Neuer, and wants to fight for his place i nthe starting XI, should also go without saying.
Danny Welbeck is in a similar boat. This guy just wants to prove himself and he has done so with every waking minute since his return from injury. So what’s stopping Wenger from slotting him in on the wings and giving him 75-90 minutes to prove himself?
In terms of raw athleticism, no one will top him on the entirety of that pitch. That trio of attackers will boat enough speed to counter, enough work ethic to help on defense and enough size to be troublesome on set pieces.

All that being said, I can imagine Wenger rolling with Alexis, Iwobi and Walcott and thoroughly pissing off half of Gooner nation. You can’t expect a side to score goals when two of the three attackers have confidence issues and have never had success against Bayern.
