Arsenal: Alexis Sanchez Exiting In A Furore Of Fire
Alexis Sanchez is seemingly on his way out of the Emirates after the 5-1 loss Bayern Munich. He is leaving Arsenal in a furore of fire.
Much of the media attention since Arsenal’s 5-1 dismantling at the hands of Bayern Munich has centred on the now rather uncertain future of Arsene Wenger. After undergoing a rather subdued and dejected press conference, it has led most to conclude that, when his contract expires come the end of the season, the now 21-year reigning manager will call it a day.

While the argument can still be had about whether that is the right decision or not, both from the club’s and Wenger’s perspective, with the limelight focused on Wenger and his future, there has been a slight relapse pertaining to the media’s obsession with Alexis Sanchez, his on-pitch behaviour and his off-pitch future.

However, while Wenger will rightly dominate the news columns, there is a growing inevitability about Sanchez’s future. After delaying contract talks into his final two years, doubts began to grow regarding his desire to stay an underachieving club beyond his third season. Now, after yet another last-16 Champions League and another season in which the mentality of the side has cost them the success their technical talent suggests, those doubts have been confirmed.
Sanchez was visibly exasperated with his teammates during the closing stages of Wednesday’s tie. It is not the first time that his frustrations have spilt over into his behaviour on the pitch. In the aftermath, he has since flown to Spain for a trip that Wenger has stated is due to his upcoming court case regarding potential tax fraud – interesting timing, don’t you think? – and Chileans have organised a mass march to call on him to quit Arsenal and find a more worthy team.
Add to this the rumours that there was a significant argument between Sanchez and many of his teammates in the dressing room after the game – Wenger did play this down in his latest press conference but clearly some commotion took place – and it is easy to draw the conclusion that Sanchez will not be wearing the red of Arsenal for much longer.
Entering the close of the year, the Chilean will have just one more season remaining on his four-year deal and, per all indications, does not seem interested in signing a new one. If the Gunners have any hope of recouping value, then selling him this summer is the only option.

It would be sad to see Sanchez leave, especially after such a successful season, one in which his importance to the team has only heightened thanks to a change in position. But the stars are aligning such that his exit is nigh and it will certainly be in a furore of fire.
