Arsenal probably shouldn’t be in the market for a new striker, if everything goes accordingly. But even if they are, Andrea Belotti should not be a first choice.

Arsenal came into this season looking sketchy in the striker department, but here we are in February and they have four viable options up front. They landed Lucas Perez as the window was closing, transformed Alexis Sanchez into yet another role and found the best in Olivier Giroud.

Danny Welbeck’s return to health made it four, and now there are almost too many of them to account for the game time available.

There are still major questions if that will remain the case. Obviously Giroud and Welbeck aren’t going anywhere, but the rumors surrounding Lucas Perez and Alexis Sanchez are everywhere and it wouldn’t be the craziest thing to see one or both leave.

In which case, a new striker would be needed.

Andrea Belotti is not the worst choice, and it sounds like Wenger agrees, as he supposedly sent off a massive £56m bid in January. The Italian has burst onto the scene for Torino and, in his most recent outing, impressed (minus the missed penalty) in front of an Arsenal scount.

He should absolutely be on the Gunner’s radar, as he is tied for the Serie A lead in goals scored. Not to mention the fact that he is only 23 and has a bright future ahead of him.

But assuming Alexis were to leave, Belotti is not the guy that should be turned to. He is a nice option, but a second-tier option. I don’t mean this in a bad way, though.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

I simply mean that, of all the strikers that we know are moving this summer, Belotti has proven the least and has the most question marks.

Next to Belotti, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette have both indicated they would be keen to move this summer, while Sergio Aguero is also looking likely.

And the kicker is that all three of those option might well cost less than what Belotti figures to cost. According to Belotti’s agent, the release clause is a massive £85m. And this is the primary reason why he is a second-tier option.

When you spend that kind of money, you want hardcore results. Lacazette has proven himself for three years in Ligue 1. Aubameyang is a goal fiend. Aguero has long been considered the best in England.

Belotti is just an upstart at this point. He will most likely go on and have a massive career for himself, but compared to the other options out there, this just doesn’t make sense.
