Arsenal really need to find away to keep hold of Alexis Sanchez, but conflicting reports on his demands are undermining what hope we supporters have.

Arsenal found someone truly special when they signed Alexis Sanchez. The two sides, club and player, helped each other improve immensely. The problem is that now, the club and player are going in opposite directions, as Arsenal can’t manage to progress while Alexis is the model of improvement.

Maintaining the Chilean should absolutely be a top priority, even if the club doesn’t want to be depicted as in a position of weakness, they can still be working on this behind the scenes, something we should be banking on.

That won’t keep the rumors at bay though. Initial reports indicated that Alexis drew up his own, non-negotiable wage demands. The report said he wanted £250,000 and he woulds stay. That is perfectly reasonable and something that the club should have signed in a heartbeat.

It was a sign of hope. A sign that Alexis really did want to stay at Arsenal, he just wanted to be more valued by the club. There is nothing wrong with that. He wasn’t asking for Paul Pogba wages. He just wanted to be valued among the best in the league, which he was.

Now, however, new rumors are coming out that both Mesut Ozil and Alexis want £290,000 to stay with the Gunners. Which is also known as Paul Pogba wages.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Chances are, all that’s happened here is we might have gotten too swept up in the promise of Alexis’s first demands to recognize that there wasn’t anything concrete supporting it. It was a rumor, and one that was not addressed by either party.

These new rumors are going to be the same story. Most likely no one is going to say anything about them because, as rumors tend to be, they are unfounded and based on hype and clicks than on actual facts.

But it does sort of undermine the hope we had in Alexis staying. Mostly just because it reminds us that we have no idea what is going on in Alexis’s head or what is going on between the club an the Chilean.

There have been visible signs of tension, but that kind of stuff happens when the club is struggling and the player is ambitious and doesn’t like to lose.

We are just going to have to wait this one out and hope that all the love that Alexis professes for the club is true.
