Arsenal: Lucas Perez Can Take Over Where Danny Welbeck Left Off
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal saw a complete deflation against West Brom and Danny Welbeck was not spared. Time to redirect that optimism onto Lucas Perez again.
Arsenal’s performance against West Brom took no prisoners. And by that I mean there were so few bright spots (if any) that I had to cancel my “5 positive takeaways” after usual losses. There just weren’t enough to fill the slides.

Which is odd because, when the starting XI was announced, I couldn’t have been more excited. Everything made sense. Whether Mesut Ozil was actually injured or not, the result was promising. It looked like Wenger had actually learned something.
Danny Welbeck was actually starting up front and Alexis Sanchez was actually starting out wide.
It was pretty awesome. And West Brom wasn’t exactly the cream of the footballing crop. There was a lotof reason to be optimistic.
But just like that, everything failed. And perhaps none failed more disappointingly than Danny Welbeck. It’s not like he was detrimental to the grand scheme of the horrific loss, but he made such a tiny impact that it was along the lines of Theo Walcott. And it brought everything back down to earth.
It was deflating, which is the best word I can attach to it. Again, it’s not like he let us down, he just wasn’t the savior that we had been thinking he was. And that just comes down to delusion. I think we got a bit carried away with our expectations of him.

But who can blame us? This team needs a savior and since there was no one else stepping up, we attached the mantra of savior to Welbeck. He had all the talent after all.
With a month and a half left in the season, we need to turn to someone else to give us hope and, again, since no one else is stepping up, the most realistic receptacle for our hopes and desires has to be Lucas Perez.
The Spaniard has shown us tremendous glimpses, and he has seemingly improved, only he isn’t getting the time he deserves.
There has to be a savior, someone who still has come fight in this club that isn’t named Alexis. It might be Santi Cazorla, but he is out for the year. It could be Mesut Ozil, but I’ve seen enough of the German this year to doubt that precedence.
