Arsenal have been keyed in on Lorenzo Insigne for quite some time but it never seemed possible. That might slowly be changing, however, with the latest news.

Arsenal’s involvement in the transfer market has actually gotten pretty serious in recent years. After the purchase of Mesut Ozil, the inherent doubt attached to every link largely dissipated, as the club proved they could spend big money if they wanted to.

That has continued, and even increased, up to the present day. Last summer the bill was the highest it has ever been.

Still, finding actual, palpable evidence in any link is next to impossible. There will always be rumors that someone isn’t content, or that someone wants to leave, but no one is actually going to talk about it openly. At least not very often.

That being said, Lorenzo Insigne‘s situation is getting real. And by real, I mean there is no need for speculation, because the Italian’s agent has been very clear.

Insigne is tired of waiting. He has four clubs that have offered €4.5m (£3.9m) and a sponsorship deal from a multinational company that would pay €2.5m (£2.1m),” his agent, Ciro Venerato, said.

“He’s willing to take less to just to stay with Napoli but wants €4m (£3.4m) per season. Napoli offered €3.5m (£3m) and no more, inclusive of commission to agents who will take about 5%.

“An agreement will be reached in May. Milan and Atletico Madrid are coming out of the closet, Juventus and Roma are thinking about it. We’ll see who will win the day.”

You don’t have to spice that up or speculate, it’s all right there. The only thing that isn’t there, however, is Arsenal. At least, according to his agent. He may just be pulling names out of a hat to put pressure on Napoli, which wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world.

Insigne has always maintained that he wants to be a Neapolitan for life. But that also involves seeing the club show faith in you, just like Alexis is requesting.

I have spoken at length about why Insigne is the closest thing to a replacement the Gunners are going to find for Alexis. Sure on the ball, low center of gravity, ability to play multiple positions, Insigne has all of that. And he has done it consistently.

What will probably happen is that Napoli will give in at length and Insigne will stay. It reminds me of the Adrien Rabiot situation at PSG. But the least you can do is start planting seeds now and speaking with his agent, who is clearly not all that opposed to a move.
