Arsenal need some sort of positive direction and seeing the captain of it all, Arsene Wenger, express blatant uncertainty isn’t exactly what we need.

Arsenal has always been able to bank on Arsene Wenger being a cool and collected leader for the club. He is Le Prof after all, the man that knows it all. And even when he doesn’t succeed at what he is doing, he has enough wherewithal to keep the fight going and never lost his head.

As such, seeing the Gunners plummet down the table, unable to mount any sort of consistency, is frustrating. And it is made even worse by Wenger’s inability to right the ship. Not only is he not righting it, but he isn’t even sure what is causing the problems.

It all started with him being asked if his inability to decide on his future was effecting the club, to which he responded “I honestly don’t know but I hope not.”

Hardly conclusive. And the fact that he doesn’t know shows one heck of a disconnect.

The uncertainty didn’t stop there though.he went on to talk about their struggles on the pitch, particularly away from the very penetrable fortress of the Emirates.

"Away we have not performed, and it is difficult to analyse why because in the past we have been very strong. It has not been very enjoyable. It is a big challenge. I do not know if uncertainty off the pitch breeds uncertainty in the team and performance."

Yet again, not a lot of know-how going on here. He is clearly aware of the problems, but apparently he just isn’t sure how to move forward from it.

Granted, this isn’t a position he is used to being in, but it’s not like he should be just plodding along with the same old blueprints hoping that the problems work themselves out. And to his credit, he has been pretty open to making changes. Maybe not enough changes, but you have to start somewhere.

This should be the time when managers earn their money. This is when they know exactly the course to plot to get back on the right pace and Wenger is showing that, not only can’t he figure out his own future, but he doesn’t even know if it is effecting the team.

I think we all kind of understand that Wenger is staying for the summer. He is already making signings and he is eyeing up many more. At this point, just lay the uncertainty aside and make it look like you know what you’re doing and what the plan is. He acts his way around plenty of other questions, anyway.
