Arsenal’s loss to Tottenham was ripe with frustrating subplots, but the implosion of Mesut Ozil and subsequent silence is just oozing with shame.

Arsenal players had a right to be frustrated by their last ever performance at White Hart Lane. While this did show blips of resilience, in the end it was the same old story and the points were dropped.

The fact that Mesut Ozil may have been the most pissed off of all the Gunners should be a somewhat positive sign. Ozil has been accused of complacency in the past, given his usual lack of reaction, but after the loss to Spuds, there was most definitely a reaction.

According to the reports, Ozil was prompted to give a drug test after the match by team doctor Gary O’Driscoll and, rather than just do it, he decided to tell the team doctor to ‘f*** off’ and proceeded to kick a door in.

That’s where you have to start drawing the line. Frustration is good. Passion is good. The fact that he is actually reacting is good. But to behave like a child going to time out? Not so much. That isn’t something a professional should be doing.

Arsene Wenger has acknowledged that, coming forth and apologizing on behalf of his German maestro. That’s all well and good, but in all honesty, Ozil should be absolutely ashamed that he hasn’t come out and apologized first.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

It’s like Wenger is the father that has to go to the boy his son bullied and tell him he’s sorry on behalf of his son. No, it should be the boy apologizing. He’s the one that’s acted out of line.

Naturally, rumors are getting a bit hectic now, as tensions rise. Some are saying that Wenger has soured so much on Ozil that he won’t offer him a new contract at all and will instead look to offload him this summer.

In reality, that’s a bit much, even for Wenger. There is some middle ground where Ozil probably has a stern talking to and it all happens behind closed doors. If there is any visible consequences, it will be surprising.

Ozil has been a massive disappointment after a great start to the year. His form has tapered off in obscurity as the running joke is the search party forming in London trying to find the missing German.

With just a year left on his contract and “no news” on a new one, according to Wenger, this saga may turn nasty pretty quick.
