Although the two have had their fair share of struggling games, Xhaka and Ramsey exemplified against Man United that they have potential to be the best midfield combo in the BPL.

For the first time in the Premier League, Arsene Wenger‘s Arsenal defeated Jose Mourinho (finally!). But that might not have been possible without the performances of the Swiss man Granit Xhaka and the Welshman Aaron Ramsey.

Xhaka dominated the midfield with his amazing vision and passing along with his defensive abilities. Xhaka completed the most passes out of any player on the pitch: 73 passes, 69 completed.

Not to forget that Xhaka also boasted his shooting skills when he opened up the scoring from 30 yards out (Thank you Herrera!)

For Ramsey, it was unfortunate that he wasn’t able to score, but he proved to be super effective providing a well-balanced attacking threat and defensive threat.

Ramsey’s attacking threat was especially proven in the first half when Sanchez gave a laser pass to Ramsey who had his shot saved by David De Gea. This combo proved to be one of the keys to victory today, and we can only hope they keep playing this way.

The real reason we’re seeing this combination of Ramsey and Xhaka is because of one player: Santi Cazorla.

Cazorla is usually the prime center-mid starter when healthy, but ever since he went down with an injury earlier in the season, it paved the way for the Ramsey-Xhaka combo. Yes, you can say that Cazorla’s injury meant doom to Arsenal’s season (which became true), but his injury has shed light for a future bright combination.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Let’s take Xhaka’s and Ramsey’s ages for instance. Xhaka is only 24, and is set to turn 25 next season. Ramsey is 26-years-old and doesn’t turn 27 until December. Arsenal’s midfield partnership may be set for the next few years, if they avoid injuries and stay at the Emirates.

So let’s say that Xhaka and Ramsey continue to play the way they played today. With the talent they already possess and being in their mid-20’s, they can further develop into the best midfield combination the Premier League as to offer.

Chelsea has a combination of Kante and Matic, Man United has Pogba and Herrera, Liverpool has Emre Can and Jordan Henderson, and Man City has Yaya Toure and Ilkay Gundogan to name a few. Yes these are big names, but Xhaka and Ramsey are big names too, with a big future.

With their ages and talent, Arsenal don’t really need to focus on buying a center midfielder with starting qualities unless one of them leaves. However, they do need to find replacements for Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny as they just aren’t talented enough for Arsenal.

If Xhaka and Ramsey can keep up the same level of production and consistency as they did today, Arsenal definitely has a bright future at center-mid.
