Arsenal has grossly mistreated Lucas Perez during his short stay in North London, and it’s reached a new height, with him perched atop a broomstick.

Arsenal’s signing of Lucas Perez in the summer of 2016 wasn’t met with a lot of criticism. It was mostly met with contemplative looks, the likes of which you give something when the idea hadn’t occurred to you, but you’re willing to give it a shot, because it seems like it just may work.

Lucas is much more than a goal-poaching striker. He is a link-up expert, a superb passer and very adept at picking up assists. Which are three things that Arsene Wenger is all about when it comes to finding the right man to lead the formation.

He that Olivier Giroud-like team play factor, but without the lack of pace and with more agility. How could that go wrong?

Well, it didn’t necessarily go wrong, it just didn’t go. Lucas was given a handful of appearances, scored and assisted at a fantastic rate, and was then sent into the shadows to disappear as the club crumbled.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Apparently no matter how bad the club was playing, a guy hungry to prove himself like Lucas was not going to make a difference. Quite the conclusion for Arsene Wenger to draw.

Since that time, Lucas and his agent have made it gradually clearer that if things didn’t change, the Spaniard would rightfully go somewhere else, where he can play more frequently.

Wenger was given one last chance to make a case for himself. With Lucas back in full Arsenal training, he could have included him in the squad to face Stoke City, but instead opted for the likes of Alex Iwobi, who has become dead weight this year.

So, rather than waste his time in London any more, Lucas spent a day at Harry Potter studios in the capital, perched upon a broomstick:

I have never in all my football-following days, seen an impending exit solidified by dressing up in a Gryffindor gown and perching atop a Nimbus 2000, but this is the Arsenal, and we innovate.

Seriously though, I don’t see any way to come back from this. Lucas was not included in the team, he’s enjoying the city for the last few weeks. As sad and wholly inexplicable as it is, the Spaniard will be leaving after being given next to no chance to properly succeed.
