Arsenal definitely need midfield assistance this summer, and few options suit that need better than Corentin Tolisso. Let’s make some dreams come true.

The Gunner’s have been linked to Corentin Tolisso for over a year now, and the Frenchman has not abated those links, saying openly that Arsenal was a club that “makes him dream.” But is this summer the right time to make dreams come true?

Arsenal’s problems this year have been well documented. They don’t have a reliable striker with Alexis Sanchez in a midfield role, they don’t have the midfield depth we thought, they had some defensive shakiness. All of these things have plagued us.

The 3-4-3 definitely answered a lot of those questions. Defensively there are still some questions of cohesion, but they should all be solved with more practice and experience with a back three.

Striker should be solved this summer too. It’s obvious that neither Olivier Giroud nor Danny Welbeck is consistent enough to start regularly. Giroud doesn’t have the right skill set and Welbeck can’t score frequently enough.

In the midfield is where I have the most questions though, mainly – does Arsene Wenger see the same problem that we do?

He definitely won’t be able to ignore the problem of needing a new striker and he has already addressed the left wing back situation. But in the midfield, with numerous players returning from injury, Wenger may opt to give Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey their umpteenth chances.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

His other option is the superior option, however. Corentin Tolisso is a superb midfield who dreams of Arsenal. Meanwhile the Gunners should dream of a direct threat midfielder with an intense work rate who can play any midfield role to perfection. They’ve had that with the three mentioned above, but none of the three can stay healthy and therefore the Gunners stand at risk of having a midfield hole that they have to force Francis Coquelin or Mohamed Elneny into.

That’s not the kind of situation you want to be in when you really need to win the Premier League.

Corentin Tolisso is a sure-fire option. His work ethic is Ramsey. His creativity is Cazorla. He contributes to goals like Ramsey. He plays a direct style like Wilshere. And he stays healthy. What could be better?

He may have some acclimation problems right off the bat, but that’s what those other three are for. The cushion his landing.

You can’t do much better than Tolisso. He has contributed to over 20 goals this season from a midfield position. He has strong defensive numbers to prove that he could do either the holding role or the advanced role.
