Arsenal’s summer is going to be rather interesting, but Arsene Wenger has a point. One or two ‘quality’ signings all they really need.

Arsenal’s season was a steaming, heaping pile of disappointment for the gross majority of the year. In typical Gunner fashion, they turned on the jets at the end, but it was too little too late as the club fell farther than it has in two decades.

But it does mean something that they achieved four more points than last year. It’s a small consolation, but there is something there. The team improved. Unfortunately, a handful of other teams improved more.

It may be disturbing to some, therefore, to hear Arsene Wenger outline minimal needs this summer. Rather than promising massive investments and overhaul, Le Prof has sang a much different tune (as quoted by the Metro):

"First I think we have to keep 90 per cent of these players together and find one or two more who strengthen the group but we don’t need a lot. We don’t need many. But we need maybe top quality."

I can hear the angry outcries already, but we have to look at this practically. Arsenal answered a ton of their problems simply by switching to a 3-4-3. Their defense is set. No help is needed there. They already got Sead Kolasinac, so the wingbacks are set as well.

The midfield two of Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey has turned into a serious force and needs to get the credit it deserves. Xhaka was a brilliant investment and Ramsey is finally coming back into form after so many years.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

The two attacking midfield positions are manned by our two superstars, and if you want to talk depth at those two positions, we have Alex Iwobi, Danny Welbeck, and more.

The one glaring need is at striker. The Gunners don’t have a reliable striker to cap off their strong attacking form. Use one of those top quality signings there and you could make the argument that in terms of making improvements, you are done. No one else needs to be replaced or improved upon.

In terms of the other quality signing, use it on midfield depth. Someone like Corentin Tolisso who can spot Ramsey in times of injury or just provide more competition.

Give me a top quality striker and a Tolisso-like midfielder and I am satisfied. Wenger addressed a lot of the needs last summer, bolstering the defense and the midfield. Repair that broken system at striker and pieces will fall into place. Alexis and Mesut Ozil will have a more reliable font of attacking usefulness, making them better as well.

This club has needs, absolutely, but let’s not blow it out of proportion.
