Arsenal: Sead Kolasinac can reaffirm Arsene Wenger’s genius status
By Josh Sippie
Arsene Wenger has always preferred his cheap, off the radar signings for Arsenal and it worked for Rob Holding. You’re up next, Sead Kolasinac.
Arsenal supporters are probably sighing as they read about Arsene Wenger bashing the idea of spending huge amounts of money just for the sake of spending money. But Le Prof has proven himself quite capable of making modern adjustments without modern prices. Again, just look at Rob Holding.

Contrast that with what Manchester City do and what little success they have found doing it and it’s starting again to look like Wenger has the upper hand somehow.
It’s always dicey to approach a club’s major needs with trying to find a bargain deal, but Arsene Wenger not only accomplished that with Holding last summer, but they are ready to accomplish it again with Sead Kolasinac this summer.
The Bosnian fills the left wing back void that was ignored last summer amidst links to the £30m Ricardo Rodriguez. Wenger gave his two incumbents another chance and that likely had to do with the fact that he had found his solution elsewhere. And he wasn’t going to cost £30m.
In fact, he wasn’t going to cost anything.
Wenger has needed a new left back for awhile, he will always need more fight and determination, and Kolasinac solves all of that in one fell swoop. For no transfer fee whatsoever.

Again, how’s that for him proving that you do not have to spend big to solve problems? Let Manchester City drown money into players that may never pan out and Wenger will be sitting by, picking up sharp acquisitions like Holding and Kolasinac, who are every bit worthy of a £30m+ fee.
It shouldn’t always be about the money, I agree. It’s blindingly frustrating that the Arsenal board is so insistent on balancing the budget over winning titles. But then you see Wenger flex his genius with Holding and Kolasinac.
And there are indeed also big money signings like Alexis, Ozil and Xhaka. It’s striking a balance that is key and I still believe that any money not spent on certain solutions (Kolasinac) can be reapplied to other needs (striker). Now we just have to see if that holds true.

Arsenal has yet to formally announce Kolasinac, whose contract is up at the end of the month, but it has been widely accepted, as well as being hinted at by numerous parties, that the deal is done. He may end up being one of the most important signings of the summer and he is going to cost all of nothing.
