Hector Bellerin has begun to look like a bit of a question mark going forward for Arsenal, but if that’s a problem, he has no one to blame but himself.

Here is a story I am getting mighty sick of. Hector Bellerin, a self-proclaimed Arsenal man, and his tie to Barcelona has gone on far too long and with far too little conclusiveness. Now, we have our latest bit of annoyance, with Barcelona and Spanish youngster Denis Suarez yapping about how tragic it is that Bellerin is “tied” to the Gunners.

Here’s what he had to say, as quoted by the Metro:

"I have spoken with Bellerin. On the one hand he wants to come to Barca and on the other he feels tied to the Arsenal. I wish he could come."

Hey, Denis. This is what happens when you sign a massive contract with a team that rescues you from the confines of Barcelona’s youth system. And equally what happens when you continually bash the idea of going back to Barcelona throughout that tenure.

Seriously, Suarez has it sounding like Arsene Wenger has Bellerin rotting in a jail cell on a steady diet of stale bread and vinegar, where he hasn’t seen the sunlight since March.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Bellerin has been given every opportunity to make a name for himself, which he has done. This is something that would not have been accomplished had he stayed at Barcelona. Why do you think the name “Hector Bellerin” is a bigger name than “Denis Suarez”?

Assuming what Suarez is saying is correct though, and this is what Bellerin has said, then who is to blame? Answer: Not a soul other than the man himself.

Bellerin embedded himself in the culture of Arsenal by constantly laughing in the face of Barcelona interest. He went so far as to say he would hang up if Barcelona called him. Fans love that. They love to see a loyal player who is appreciative of what’s been given to him.

And Bellerin did more than that. He signed such a huge contract that we had nothing to fear, locking himself in until 2023.

The fact that he now wants to go back to Barca but feels like he is too tied to the Gunners is a contraption of his own making. You can’t do all of those things and then all of a sudden warm up to an exit. That’s just how life works.
