Arsenal are being far too heavily tied to selling Olivier Giroud but honestly, selling the big Frenchman would just be the cap on a career of disrespect.

You all probably already know where this article is going. Arsenal are tied to numerous sales of Olivier Giroud, from West Ham to Marseille, to being part of a deal to land either Kylian Mbappe or Alexandre Lacazette.

And each time a new rumor emerges regarding the bearded wonder, I say the same thing: “Why the hell are we trying to move Giroud?”

There is no indication that we are, but quite frankly, it would be the capstone on a career full of disrespect. The Arsenal fan base has never fully supported Giroud. They have always used him as the scapegoat for the club’s misfortunes. The French nationals do it too, despite how proven the man is (more proven than Karim Benzema, even).

The man had the unenviable task of following up Robin van Persie, who followed up Thierry Henry. The odds were stacked against him, but even still, he scored goals. Quite a bit, in fact. Maybe not as glitzy or glamorous as his predecessors, but a goal is a goal.

Still, Wenger put all his chips in Giroud’s basket, not bothering to bring in any competition. Competition that would have pushed Giroud to his best (how do I know? Look around). It got to the point where even Giroud was asking for competition. One man, I don’t care who it is, should never be as heavily relied upon as Giroud was.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Finally, this past year, there was competition. Giroud was pushed to the bench more times than not and it wound him up, which caused him to finish the season as the most efficient striker in the league. A league that has all those “world class” strikers that we moan about not having.

Giroud is better than he has ever been because Wenger finally pushed him. Next year, Giroud is already talking about how he will not settle for the play time he had this past season. Meaning he is going to be out of his mind playing his ass off, doing everything he can to secure a starting role. And if his performances with the French National team this summer has been any indication, we have a lot to be excited for.

To sell him now would be to crap all over what we have been building towards with him and what he has finally achieved. Not only that, but with Giroud sitting so close to the 100 goal club, it would rob him of his rightful place in the Arsenal history books. More disrespect to pile on the mass.

I understand the need for another striker, but if it comes at the cost of losing Giroud, we shouldn’t be so quick to say “yes please, take him.” He is far more valuable than he has ever been given credit for. You wait and see. This coming year, wherever he plays, is going to be his best ever.
