Arsenal look to be the front runners to land Thomas Lemar even with Tottenham also interested. Talk about a massive mind f*** on the Spuds.

Arsenal finished below Tottenham for the first time in over two decades, which is a big deal for a team that never wins anything. It should also have been a gateway for bigger and better players this summer, but one such player, Thomas Lemar, appears more keen on joining the red side of North London.

The most recent reports indicate that Lemar is actually holding off on talks with Monaco while he awaits Arsene Wenger‘s move.

This all sound well and good, but any time we can turn anything into a slight on the Spurs, we will take the opportunity to do so. As you may know, Hugo Lloris has been in Lemer’s ear, trying to lure him to that other team in North London, but nothing has come of it.

In browsing Twitter, one particular account hit the nail on the head with what this potential more would mean. Have a look (it’s a great account by the way, give it a follow):

Think of what the Spurs must be thinking if this move goes through. Here they are, celebrating how much pressure they put on Chelsea and how they finally finished above Arsenal, yet they still can’t win the players that they want when those players can choose Arsenal instead.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Getting Lemar in and of itself would be a massive win, especially if Alexis or Mesut Ozil has their eye on the exit door. And for just £26m with what he was able to produce last season? How many ways can we say yes?

Under the current 3-4-2-1 formation, Lemar would figure to fit in in one of the two attacking midfield positions and while those are currently manned by the two superstars, it’s never too early to plan ahead. Plus, being able to lessen our reliance on them should be a big priority.

The added competition would work wonders for this attack. Not to mention the new and exciting formations and combinations that would be opened up with someone like Lemar in the squad. We haven’t had a true winger for awhile now. Alex Iwobi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain always wanted to be centralized players. Theo Walcott could go down as a true winger, but even he had aspirations to be something else.

I’d like to think this tragic lack of actual wingers is part of the reason why the 4-2-3-1 finally died (not that there weren’t countless other reasons).
