Arsenal: Alexandre Lacazette, Kylian Mbappe an odd duo
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal are all in on both Alexandre Lacazette and Kylian Mbappe, but if the intention really is to get them both, is that the best idea?
Arsenal need a striker, and thankfully, it appears that for once, Arsene Wenger agrees with the fans. We went through countless years waiting for him to give us someone to compliment Olivier Giroud, but all we ever came up with was Danny Welbeck. And while he is a fantastic player, he isn’t the striker we needed.

Now, all of a sudden, with a brand new sense of urgency and with money apparently not being an issue, Wenger is in it to win it. And by win it, I mean go after all the strikers he should have landed long ago. Or both of them, at least.
Reports are swarming that the Gunners are inching closer to not just Alexandre Lacazette, but also Kylian Mbappe. Simultaneously. As in, they are both being bid on at the same time, irrespective of the other.
One more way to look at it – there seems to be a possibility, however unlikely, that we land them both for a combined fee of something near £200m (which, in Manchester United’s terms, is just half a summer).

Either striker would be fantastic to augment the attack the Gunners already have. They’ve always just needed that tip of the spear to take them to the promised land. Both fit the need. Of course, Lacazette maybe around for longer if Mbappe really is just in it for the rental, but that’s not what we’re here to talk about.
What we are here to talk about is how having both of them feels like a waste, to be brutally honest. Both play a very similar type of game, both fit the same need. Getting them both and losing, say Giroud, is a boost, but we’d still lose a weapon while gaining two similar weapons.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to be nit-picky. I love that the Gunners are heavily pursuing both options. It shows ambition and it probably won’t come down to a matter of having both. I hate to rain on this parade, but losing Giroud to land both of them would be worse than landing one and keeping Giroud.

It’s a matter of options. That’s what got me so excited about Lucas Perez. The options that we had were so profoundly different that no matter the situation, there was a solution. I guess, on the bright side, we could think that with an Mbappe or a Lacazette, we would no longer need options.
