Arsenal are naturally reluctant to let Alexis Sanchez go to a “rival,” but at £80m, this suddenly becomes a good deal for everyone.

Arsenal’s contract sagas are not going well all around. Far too many players are not signing new deals, meaning that far too many players are linked to exits. Obviously though, no one is linked to an exit more heavily than Alexis Sanchez, who probably sleeps in his custom-made Manchester City kit.

But seeing Alexis go to City would be downright disgusting. Revolting. Nauseating. Horrifying. Ridiculous. We’ve seen it happen far too many times, so seeing it happen to our best player? Hell no.

Even at £50m, which was the supposed asking price, it was hard to swallow. Can you really put a price on seeing the Chilean in baby blue?

Well, recent reports from the Daily Mirror are saying that the Gunners are asking for £80m and honestly, at this point, I’m looking at that sum thinking that at some point, you really do have to weigh your odds. How much is Alexis really worth to the Gunners? More than Romelu Lukaku is to Everton? Probably.

Here is my logic. We have club legends saying that current players don’t get on well with Alexis when he goes into one of his temper tantrums. Even Arsenal fans have been known to grumble when Alexis won’t give the ball up. He is making it clear that he isn’t really sure about his self-proclaimed love for Arsenal anymore, flirting with the idea of leaving.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

If you can get that much money for a guy, at any level of the spectrum, that already has one foot out the door, shouldn’t you pretty much take it? I mean, I love Alexis just as much as the next supporter, I think he’s the bees knees and I think he played a huge part in changing the mindset here at the Emirates. But that is a lot of money and he most likely doesn’t want to stay.

And before you tell me City won’t pay that much, keep in mind they paid £50m for John “Pebbles” Stones. There is no price they won’t pay to get another player that they can glue onto their hodgepodge of superstars.

I’ve already convinced myself that I’d be happy to see Thomas Lemar fill the place of a departing Alexis. Maybe it still leaves a little bit of a sour taste in my mouth, as it will any time I see the Chilean in those goofy kits, but moving on isn’t easy.
