Arsenal’s transfer window is going incredibly well, but that one missing piece is Thomas Lemar. Hopefully three is the magic number for the Frenchman.

Arsenal are one piece away from having a complete puzzle for this summer transfer window. They had two major needs and one supplementary need. The two primary needs have been covered and they made it look easy after so many years of seeing it look like the heliocentric Theory of Copernicus looked to critics in the 16th century.

That one supplementary need has been the toughest to acquire which, honestly, is a good thing. Which is the reason why it’s even more encouraging to see Arsene Wenger going to hard after a supplementary need.

Of course, it’ll become a primary need incredibly quickly if Alexis leaves, but for now, it isn’t.

Monaco aren’t making it easy for the Gunners, though. After losing Bernardo Silva to Manchester City, they are staunchly holding onto their Thomas Lemar, hoping to keep him for another year at the very least.

But as we are learning with Alexis Sanchez, no matter how much a team wants to keep a player, if he wants to be somewhere else, there just isn’t much you can do.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Lemar is pushing for an exit, according to all reports. He spurned Tottenham’s advances, as well as advances to extend at Monaco in favor of trying to force his way out to Arsenal, undoubtedly to play under Arsene Wenger before Le Prof calls it quits. It was so enticing to him that he was all over Alexandre Lacazette‘s social media, liking a post the French striker posted about arriving at Arsenal.

Wenger has submitted two bids for Lemar, neither has led to much success, but the third bid is sounding like the one that might be able to push Monaco over the edge. According to the Daily Mirror, the Gunners are convinced that Lemar wants to join them, and sometimes that really is all that it takes.

The third bid is supposed to rank in not far from £40m, which, if it turns out to be the price that was required, would be quite the coup, seeing as how every publication reckoned that the Gunners would have to spend anywhere between £50m and £80m.

Three has been the lucky number in the past for Arsenal. For instance, by most accounts it took three bids for Lacazette to be secured. One last summer and two this summer. It took three bids to land Krystian Bielik from Poland. Hopefully three is the magic number for Lemar as well.
